Turning Fan Data Into Sponsor Intelligence.

FXNL built a fan intelligence and activation platform that connects first-party behavior across the franchise’s digital and physical ecosystem, creates actionable audience segments, and makes those audiences usable for sponsor campaigns.

The Impact

From analyst request to actionable audience.

Audience creation previously required people to gather, reconcile and analyze fan behavior across multiple systems. The new platform gives commercial teams access to behavioral segments built from connected first-party data.

Before · Manual Assembly

  1. Sponsor Request
  2. Analyst Request
  3. Multiple Data Exports
  4. Manual Analysis
  5. Audience File

  4. Activation

Operational Impact

Faster audience development · Less manual data preparation · More sophisticated segmentation · More usable first-party data · More targeted sponsor activation

The Challenge

The franchise knew its fans. Its systems knew them separately.

A fan might buy tickets, use the mobile app, participate in loyalty programs, interact with email or SMS, make purchases at the stadium, and engage with digital campaigns. Those behaviors existed across different systems.

When a sponsor wanted to reach a specific kind of fan, commercial teams often depended on analysts to gather information from several sources, reconcile the records, create the segment and move the resulting audience into another platform for activation.

The problem wasn’t a lack of fan data. It was making fragmented fan behavior usable by the commercial organization.

The Platform

From fragmented interactions to a unified fan view.

FXNL created a data and identity layer that connects approved first-party fan interactions and makes them usable for segmentation and sponsor activation.

Fragmented Signals

  • Ticketing
  • Mobile App
  • Email
  • SMS
  • Loyalty
  • Stadium / POS
  • Ad Platforms
  • BI / Connected Systems

A single fan can interact across several of these environments.

  1. Identity + Data Layer

    Permissioned

    Resolves permitted records across systems

  2. Unified Fan Profile

    One fan, connected across channels

  3. Audience Intelligence

    Behavioral segments and propensity signals

  4. Human Review

    Human

    Commercial judgment on relevance

  5. Sponsor Activation

    Permissioned

    Approved audiences to permitted channels

Upstream Permissions / Eligibility

Privacy, consent, suppression and channel eligibility are governed by upstream systems. The platform respects those permission states when resolving identity and activating audiences.

Unified Fan Data

One fan. Multiple signals.

The platform connects permitted interactions across systems into a unified profile that commercial teams can use to understand behavior across channels.

Audience Intelligence

Behavior creates better segments than broad demographics alone.

The platform uses behavioral signals across connected fan interactions to identify useful audience groups and propensity patterns—without requiring analysts to manually assemble every segment from separate data exports.

Sponsor Category

Travel

Audience Signals

  • Frequent game attendance
  • High mobile engagement
  • Recent purchases
  • Away-game content engagement
  • Active digital engagement

Result

Eligible Behavioral Audience

AI and machine-learning capabilities help identify clusters of fans with similar behaviors and surface propensity signals that can support audience development.

  • Merchandise propensity
  • Game attendance propensity
  • Disengagement signals
  • Historical campaign engagement

These are decision-support signals—not guarantees of purchase behavior, sensitive-trait inference or autonomous sponsorship decisions.

Sponsor Activation

Turn audience intelligence into something the commercial team can use.

Once an audience has been identified, the commercial team reviews whether it fits the sponsor objective. Approved audiences can then be activated through permitted connected channels.

  2. Audience Segment
  3. Human Review
  4. Approved Activation

Responsibility

Intelligence without removing commercial judgment.

AI / ML

  • Identifies behavioral clusters
  • Surfaces propensity signals
  • Finds useful audience patterns
  • Supports segment development

Data + Automation

  • Synchronizes connected systems
  • Resolves permitted fan records
  • Updates unified profiles
  • Routes approved audiences to channels

Human

  • Defines sponsor objectives
  • Reviews audience relevance
  • Approves activation
  • Makes commercial decisions

Privacy, consent and channel eligibility are governed by upstream systems and respected by the platform.

Implementation

The Hard Part Wasn’t Defining an Audience.

The difficult problem was establishing a reliable identity and data layer across systems that represented the same fan differently. Ticketing might know someone by one customer identifier. A mobile application might know them through another. Loyalty, POS, email, SMS and digital platforms could each contain another representation of the same person.

FXNL had to connect those permitted records, normalize the underlying data and make the resulting profile usable by segmentation and activation workflows—accounting for incomplete data, duplicate records, inconsistent schemas, API constraints and upstream permission states.

The hard problem wasn’t describing the audience. It was building a trustworthy system capable of identifying and activating it.

FXNL’s End-to-End Role

  1. Discover
  2. Map
  3. Architect
  4. Build
  5. Integrate
  6. Deploy

FXNL handled the engagement end-to-end, including discovery, data and process mapping, architecture, integrations, the identity layer, the audience engine, AI/ML capabilities, sponsor activation workflows, analytics, deployment, training and ongoing optimization.

What’s Next

Close the loop between activation and learning.

The next evolution of the platform can bring campaign outcomes back into the intelligence layer, allowing teams to understand how audiences and activations performed and use those results to improve future segmentation.

Future Extension
  1. Understand
  2. Segment
  3. Activate
  4. Measure
  5. Learn

This describes a future extension. Closed-loop campaign measurement is not part of the currently deployed platform.
